Correspondence, 1863-1879.

Primarily letters from Nellie to Henry (known as Harry) and Harry to Nellie before their marriage. The first letters were written while Harry was fighting for Union forces during the American Civil War and continued after his permanent migration to Carson City, Nevada, where he became editor and owner of the Carson daily appeal. The letters detail events of daily life in Norway, Maine and Carson City and major events in U.S. history such as the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln and the end of the Civil War. Some letters to Nellie in Carson City from her family in Maine comment on her news of previous letters and family tidings.

Henry (Harry) Rust Mighels and wife Nellie Verrill Mighels (1844-1945) were from Norway, Maine. Harry becoame owner of the Carson (City) daily appeal in 1865; they married in 1866 after a lengthy courtship by mail.
